I am a woman of color and I go by the name Shea, I met this gentleman, Scott, who is german. In the year of 2014, we started dating. Maybe a little over 6 months after we met. I had finally settled into my place and was ready to focus on a relationship.

Scott has only had relationships with Caucasian and Spanish women. Everything was going great between us and it even got to the point where we were discussing marriage and talking about my children and I moving in with him.

I’ve spent the several nights throughout the week, and that wasn’t an issue until the morning of July 4th, 2015. That morning I tell him I really need to wash my hair. Going back and forth to the beach every other day and just rinsing my hair to get the sand out wasn’t really getting through my tracks properly. This particular moment I said I was going to thoroughly wash my hair.

We had planned a big day together, going to Orlando to watch the fireworks and eat and party. I’m extremely girlie and like big hair. I had 8 packs of 24, 26, & 28 inch deep wave. I wash/scrub my scalp of each track, condition, and let the condition set for about 10 minutes, rinse, brush to untangle and then braid. This process took over an hour. When I got out of the bathroom, Scott was like, “Do you realize how long you were in the bathroom”. I didn’t pay him any attention, like any woman wouldn’t. We don’t mention how long they watch sports all day. So I just brushed the conversation off.

I had some errands to run, he claimed he did also. So we were planning to meet back at his house aroiund 2pm to head to Orlando together. I kept calling, calling, texting multiple times no answer. So me with my strong personality, I was like, “Forget this I’ll go by myself and enjoy my evening”.

I had no idea this man was avoiding me because of my hair until a year later he reached out to me and said he was sorry and that I was a great woman. But what turned him off was the sound of me brushing my hair (weave) I was like what the hell, I didn’t even know it had a sound, remind you, I might have been brushing for a good 30 minutes due to the fact that I had so much hair and was brushing it while washing to keep it from tangling.

He explaied to me that he had never heard anything like it and that it was a turn off. And all he could think of was the sound my hair made when I brushed it and that that was the reason he called the relationship off. … LOL
